A closer look
Bell tent · Lower hillside
The lower hillside is where two of our seven bell tents stand: Hartland and Kernow. This page is the overview of that stretch of the park — each tent has a page of its own, linked below, with its deck, its outlook and its own quirks written up properly.
Both have a private deck with a chiminea on it, matting underfoot, a double bed and two singles, all made up with bedding and towels before you arrive. They sit high enough for a view over the valley but without the climb up to the upper hillside — the middle option, and the easier one if you’re carrying bags or walking a dog up. Each deck has room to sit out with a coffee and watch the light change over the fields.
These two share gas cooking facilities, sited directly opposite the tents and used by nobody else on the park. There is still no cooking inside the tents themselves, and the cook deck at the facilities is down on the valley floor if you’d rather use them. Showers and toilets are in that same block, shared with the rest of the park and open around the clock. The bell tents run from April to September.
Where it sits: Hartland and Kernow sit together on the lower hillside, raised above the valley floor but without the climb up to the upper tents.

A wide timber deck with room for a picnic bench and chairs, and the chiminea standing at the edge of the boards. The photograph at the top of this page is Hartland. See its own page for the full write-up.
Its neighbour on the same stretch of hillside, on its own deck, with the same layout inside and the same gas facilities between them. Kernow has a page of its own too.

No — the beds are made up with bedding and towels, and there’s a chiminea on the deck. Bring food and you’re set. It’s the canvas without the faff.
Yes. Gas cooking facilities are sited directly opposite Hartland and Kernow and shared between them, used by nobody else. There is still no cooking inside the tents themselves.
At the facilities down on the valley floor — there’s a covered cook deck, a short walk from the tents and open to everyone on the park. Handy if both tents want the gas at the same time, or if the weather has turned.
No. Showers and toilets are in the block a short walk from the tents and shared with the rest of the park. They’re open 24 hours, with baby changing in both the male and female toilets.
A gentle rise from the valley floor. These two are the middle option — raised enough for a view, without the climb up to the upper hillside tents.
April to September. Outside those months the lodges, the school bus and the Airstream stay open, and the camping pitches run in their own seasons.
Yes, dogs are welcome in the bell tents as in every stay at Willow Valley. Keep them on a lead no longer than two metres around the park, use the dog exercise area, and please don’t leave them unattended.
