Bluebird: how a 1970 school bus ended up in a Cornish valley

A genuine 1970 American school bus, rebuilt over a Cornish winter into somewhere you’d actually want to sleep.

Willow Valley Holiday Park2 minute read

Of everything in the valley, Bluebird gets the most double-takes. She’s an American school bus, the long yellow kind you’ve seen in a hundred films, now parked on her own deck overlooking the valley.

The seats have been removed and replaced with a proper interior, with a double bed and a set of bunks, a fully furnished kitchen, and a comfortable living area complete with a log burner for cosy evenings and a TV for when the weather turns.

Outside, there’s a decked seating area where you can sit with a coffee and watch the light move slowly down the valley.

She sleeps up to four, which makes her a favourite with families (the kids talk about “the bus” for months afterwards) and with couples who’d rather stay somewhere with a story than somewhere that looks like a showroom.

Bedding and towels are provided. Showers and toilets are the site’s shared blocks, open around the clock, and there’s gas cooking outside.

There’s genuinely nothing else like her near Bude. If you want a stay the children will remember, this is the one.
