    Cobbled, traffic-free and dropping four hundred feet to a 14th-century quay — Clovelly is an easy day out from the valley, and one of the few places that still moves its goods by sledge and donkey.

    From cowpats to canvas: the history of Willow Valley

    Willow Valley was a working farm within living memory. Guests who pitched here in the 1960s and 70s still tell us what it was like — cowpats, basic facilities, and the same field lines you can walk today.

    The River Strat: the stream that runs through the valley

    It runs the length of the site and on through Bude to the sea over Summerleaze Beach. Two bridges, a monitoring station, and more wildlife than you’d expect.

    Padstow Christmas Festival: chefs, markets and harbour fireworks

    Sixty-odd chefs, three marquees, a lantern parade made by the local schools, and fireworks over the harbour on the Friday night. Padstow’s Christmas Festival is well worth the drive from the valley.

    Frost, fallen leaves and an empty valley: Willow Valley out of season

    Once the visitors have gone, the valley changes. Autumn colour down the banks, the first hard frost on the grass, and the lodges, Bluebird, Boskenna and the hardstanding pitches still open through the colder months.

    We didn’t exactly hibernate. Over our first winter we set about giving the park a proper going-over, ready for the season ahead.
